- Bio The Valse Café Orchestra was founded in 1999 to play music for dancers and other romantics. The café orchestra concept first appeared in Imperial Vienna, during the 19th century, as a way to play the “big” symphonic music of the Strauss family, Émil Waldteufel and Tchaikovsky—yet with a smaller, more affordable ensemble. Our repertoire is filled with postmodern renditions of dance-hall classics, a mélange of Viennese waltz and American jazz, plus Argentine tangos, rumbas, cha-chas, polkas, schottisches and the blues. Our goal is not simply to play music, but to create evenings of fantasy and romance.
